    "Битники"
    Представители "поколения битников" [ Beat Generation]. Впервые о "битниках" (о поэтах, собиравшихся в книжной лавке "Огни большого города" [City Lights Book Store] в г. Сан-Франциско - А. Гинзберге [ Ginsberg, Allen], Г. Корсо [Corso, Gregory], Л. Ферлингетти [Ferlinghetti, Lawrence] и Г. Снайдере [ Snyder, Gary], а также о писателях Дж. Керуаке [ Kerouac, Jack] и У. Берроузе [Burroughs, William]) было написано в газете "Нью-Йорк таймс" в июне 1959. (Впоследствии суффикс -nik стал продуктивным - возникали слова: [peacenik] - "мирник", [Vietnik] - "вьетник", участник кампаний протеста против войны во Вьетнаме и др. Толчок к его распространению дал запуск СССР первого спутника [sputnik], после чего один из экспериментальных спутников США, который не удалось запустить, получил у журналистов название [flopnik] ("провальник"))

    Поэт, один из лидеров поколения битников [ Beat Generation] 50-х гг. и "контркультуры" [ counterculture] 60-х гг. В 1948 окончил Колумбийский университет [ Columbia University], где сдружился с Дж. Керуаком [ Kerouac, Jack] и У. Берроузом [Burroughs, William]. Основная тема ранней лирики - духовная ущербность современного человека, пребывающего в состоянии войны с самим собой, трещина "в массовом сознании Америки". Известность поэту принесла книга "Вопль и другие стихи" ["Howl and Other Poems"] (1956), ставшая первым явлением сан-францисского "поэтического возрождения" и манифестом битников [ Beatniks, the]; поэма характеризуется самим поэтом как "огромная печальная комедия из безумных фраз и бессмысленных образов". Популярность Гинсберга резко возросла в начале 60-х, он много путешествовал, участвовал в антивоенном движении [ antiwar movement], увлекался буддизмом. Выпустил сборники "Каддиш" ["Kaddish and Other Poems"] (1961), "Сгустки реальности" ["Reality Sandwiches"] (1963). Итог творчества 60-х - сборник "Падение Америки" ["The Fall of America"] (1972, Национальная книжная премия [ National Book Award]). Гинсберг сначала диктовал свои стихи, а позже переносил на бумагу, максимально точно фиксируя паузы и ритм дыхания, стараясь передать читателю состояние пророческого экстаза. В поздних стихах - "Душа дышит" ["Mind Breathes"] (1977) и "Ода Плутонию" ["Plutonian Ode"] (1981) - горечь и самоирония несостоявшегося пророка, ощущение человеческой слабости. В 1984 поэт издал сборник "Избранные стихи" [Collected Poems, 1947-80]

    Поэт. Получил образование в лицеях Швейцарии и Германии. В 1914 построил в городке Кармел, шт. Калифорния, дом-башню на скале и прожил в нем всю жизнь. В течение полувека (с 1912) выпустил более 20 сборников стихов. Начинал в традиционном стиле, подражая англо-американским романтикам второй половины XIX в. Вслед за У. Уитменом [ Whitman, Walt (Walter)] развивал традиции библейского стиха (сборник "Тамар и другие стихи" ["Tamar and Other Poems"] (1924), "Чалый" ["Roan Stallion"] (1925), поэма "Башня над трагедией" ["The Tower Beyond Tragedy"] (1925) и др.). В его творчестве сквозит глубокий пессимизм, неверие в современную цивилизацию и человека, обожествление дикой природы. Некоторые критики самой большой удачей поэта считают его вольный перевод трагедии "Медея" ["Medea"] Еврипида, в 1946 с успехом поставленной на Бродвее [ Broadway]. Программным считается стихотворение "Антигуманист" ["Unhumanist"] (1954). В 50-60-е гг. стихи Джефферса были популярны в среде леворадикальной молодежи, многие идеи оказались созвучны творчеству битников [ Beatniks, the]
